Juan Pérez is a Spanish flamenco pianist and composer. Being son of the flamenco singer Juan Sombra and born in Huelva (Spain) in 1984, Juan Pérez has studied and has developed his artistic career in countries all over the world.
This Spanish artist has a degree in classical piano, having studied in several cities in southern Spain and at the Conservatoire de Boulogne Billancourt (Paris, France). The renowned Berklee College of Music (Boston, USA) awarded him a full scholarship to study at the school, from which he graduated with “Summa Cum Laude” honors in piano jazz and composition. He has also studied baroque organ and early music with the organist Andrés Cea and has a diploma in pedagogical methodology from the Conservatorio Profesional de Huelva (Professional Conservatory of Music of Huelva).
Juan Pérez has collaborated in recordings and shared the stage with artists such as Zubin Mehta (Toscanini Symphony Orchestra), Pepe de Lucía, Carles Benavent, el Cigala, Juan Antonio Salazar, and Alameda, to name a few.
Throughout his long professional career, he has played in theatres and festivals all over the world. Among them the “Flamenco Festival of New York and Chicago” (USA), “Jazz Festival of Asuncion” (Paraguay), Qatar National Theatre of Doha (Doha, Qatar), “Jazz Festival of Cantabria” (Spain), Teatro Maestranza (Seville, Spain), Roulette Theatre of Brooklyn (New York, USA), Teatro Masrah al Madina (Beirut, Lebanon), and many more.
On top of all this, Juan Pérez has released two albums: “Fabulare” (2010) and “Mosaico” (2016). He is currently preparing his third album.
As for his teaching career, he has given classes and seminars on flamenco music and improvisation in countries such as the United States, Qatar, Lebanon, Palestine, Paraguay, and Spain. Between 2011 and 2014 he taught at the Lion of Judah Music School in Boston (USA) and from 2012 to 2015 he taught at the Community Music Works School in Rhode Island (USA). Besides, he has 17 years of experience in private lessons of classical piano, jazz, and flamenco. Juan Pérez is now joining our El Lucero family and will be teaching piano lessons.
